Jordan LTER

Long-Term Ecosystem Research (LTER)  is an

essential component of world wide efforts to 

better understand ecosystems.

Jordan LTER consists of a network of Jordanian scientists engaged in long-term, site-based ecological and socioeconomic research. The national network is hosted by the Society for Ecological Research, an independent organization based in Jordan.

Jordan LTER is part of a global, well-recognized network of ecology and scocio-economy scientists (iLTER). Our mission is to improve understanding of global ecosystems and inform solutions to current and future environmental problems.

Jordan is located in an arid region, and LTER sites in arid and semi-arid ecosystems are  generally lacking throughout the world. The LTER network in Jordan is the first and only of its kind in the Arab Region. Jordan LTER aims to form partnerships with other organizations and enhance links between researchers and decision makers.  It started working with one platform, a large area where socio-ecological research is being carried out in the arid area of Aqaba and Wadi Araba.
